Financal Condition of Pentax
Hi, I have been off the list for a couple of years. I am hoping to jump into the DSLR world soon. Using a Pentax DSLR seems to be the way to go based on the lenses and flashes I own. But now I hear Pentax is in rough shape financially and I wonder if I should not invest in Pentax if they will be out of the DSLR market soon. What does everybody else hear. Re: Dumb Q - Pentax FA/F Lenses on *ist D?
What body are you currently using? - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, June 21, 2003 2:18 PM Subject: Dumb Q - Pentax FA/F Lenses on *ist D? Removed newbie from subject line; guess I've been around long enough now not to be a rank newbie. :-) Okay, I am thinking about selling my Pentax gear and switching to Canon (mainly for the auto focus and maybe a bigger view finder -- yes, I will probably rent one first, if I can, before I decide -- probably the Elan 7e). But I probably should hold off until the *ist D materializes (and I am among the group that think it will materialize). I do have three zooms: Pentax FA 28-70, F 70-210, Tamron AF 70-300. These, as far as I understand, would all work on the *ist D just fine. (But I am not sure about the aperture priority stuff, whether I can set aperture myself on the *ist D.) The one thing I truly do not understand, even though I've read some threads about this -- is how would these alter regarding focal length on the *ist D? As far as I understand it (which isn't very far), it involves something about it not having a full sensor, so previous lens lengths have to be refigured and basically they come out shorter or something. Could someone explain this to me in very simple language? Thanks, Marnie aka Doe

Hello Everybody /Anybody, I need some help here. A screw must have gotten loose on my Super Program and I lost it. So I have a Super Program with a screw missing (MIA) under the camera, right in the center of the winder advance control area. (where my MEII winder fits in to advance the film) Without it, light gets to the film when I'm not using my winder. I found a screw that fits but the head is too large and my winder won't work with it there. Does anyone have a Super Program hanging around for parts? I'll pay you for it. How about $5 US for a tiny screw? Sincerely, Ryan __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Calendar - Free online calendar with sync to Outlook(TM). http://calendar.yahoo.com

What if *ist
What if I take an M or K series lens and modify it for matrix metering per Mark Roberts web site? I make sure that there is still metal contact on the one pin location as there would be on an A version when the camera is in the A position. I then set the lens to f22 and treat it like a lens set to the A position. Would this work? Jim Fellows

I missed that section. No. The reason is that the diaphragm actuator is not linear on pre-A K mount lenses. http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/technology/K-mount/Ka.html regards, Alan Chan _ The new MSN 8: smart spam protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
Re: Super A with issues
The line is not sharp nor is it absolutely straight. (it seems to have a slight bow toward the middle of the frame. I am thinking it is the mirror not coming up all the way. I was playing with it a bit last night and noticed while the camera was set to 1/125 that on occasion the viewfinder id not go completely dark every shot. Is there any kind of easy fix for this? I do not have a lot of money invested in this camera nor do I want to. If the demarcation between exposed and unexposed film is sharp, it most likely is a shutter curtain not fully moving out of the path, if the line is soft and mushy, it could be the mirror not moving fully, though you would probably see this through the viewfinder if it was happening. Power Zoom 28-105 Vs the new 28-105 3.2-4.5
I currently own the older power zoom model. I am thinking of replacing it with the newer 28-105. I am planning on replacing an older PZ model camera with either an ZX-L or the new *ist (if I can use K mount lenses with out issue) and was thinking it would be nice to have a faster more compact lens to go with it. Has anybody compared the two lenses? I have checked out Stan's lens site but not much is said about the new lens. Thanks, Jim
Super A with issues
I traded for Super A last year. I knew at the time it was a project camera. Everything on it seams to work with one minor exception. I get the occasional photo with a black stripe across the bottom of the photo. There is no detail in the stripe. It shows up once in about every 5 to 8 frames. on a 4x6 print the Stripe can cover anywhere from 1 to 2 inches of the bottom of the photo. Being at the bottom of the photo, this would correspond with the top of the film while it is in the camera. Is this caused by the shutter not opening all the way or the mirror not opening all the way. Is ther an easy way to fix this? Thanks, Jim Fellows

This happens with and without the use of a flash. The first question is, are you using a non dedicated flash when this happens? If so, you may have flash sync issues. If not, you have a faulty shutter. William Robb
Re: Who has switched to Pentax and why?
Same story here. My wife had a k-1000 and a couple lenses. It was just natural to build from there. Re: P-3 vs ZX-M
I would go with the ZX-M. It has more shutter and aperture priority that the P-3 does not have. It also has a built in motor drive. A quick look at Boz's web sit will give the full list of features on both. The main distracion on the ZX-M is it does not have a metal lens mount. Re: Exclusive picture of new Pentax D-SLR (Expected streetprice US$1200)
I agree. I may not buy a new Pentax auto focus film camera, but wait 6 months to a year to see what Pentax comes out with. I have plenty of film cameras already and would be more than happy to thin out that collection to help pay for a new DSLR. My wife and I currently own the EI-200 and have a lot of fun with it. A APS sized DSLR would be more than adequate for us. If this thing is really between 1200-1500 USD, then I might very well buy one. I currently enjoy using the E-10 I have access to; this idea of a having Pentax DSLR is starting to move from theoretical speculation to potential acquisition in my mind. Besides, the way these things go, I'll probably have a whole year to save up before they ar actually available. Professional Gear
I know this topic keeps coming up but I to metion what happened today. I coach my 5 yeqr old's soccer team and today was picture day. There were about 50 teams of 10 kids each and the photo outfit that was handling it had 4 stations setup. One for team shoots and 3 induvidual player shots. It was a nice and efficent set up. THe team photo was taken with a Nikon F5, no surprice there. When I got my team in line line at the station for individual shots, the photographer was using a Pentax K-1000. I do not know what the lens was but I found it intersiting to see it being used. Jim

I find these rules excellent, and from what I understand from other opinions expressed on the list, acceptable for most members.
