Re: PENTAX 67 BODY QUESTION

2002-01-10 Thread Jody L. Reese

The button your asking about is a reset button in case you activate the
shutter and your battery fails during the operation. That will lock your
mirror in the up position. Then you would need to replace your old battery
with a new one and then push the reset button and the mirror will return to
its resting position. Hope that helps, and yes you will need a pen to push
the reset button.

Have Fun with the camera!Jody

Hi Paul!

Took my Pentax 6x7, and my 400mm lens and shot some film up in the mountains
on Sat. Got some chromes of a waterfall with a bit of moss and ice around

Good you have the SMC - the optics are alot better with that version than
the older Takumar versions. Less aberrations and better resolution. Enjoy.

Hey Paul - sounds like you had some fun. I hope you enjoy the new lens at
such a great price. I started with a 90mm (leaf shutter) lens with my

The best website that I have seen for a Pentax 67 owners manual for sale is
on Ebay. If you are looking for a parts manual and such I would also check
on ebay. I have owned a Ppentax 6x7 since the 70's. Is there anything I

Re: Med Format Quandry

Hello from Utah! I have been shooting with the 6x7 since the 70's and
really enjoy it. I hate square format so that cuts out a few. Mamiya is ok
but heaver and more expensive (I shot RB67 as an industrial photographer for
Thiokol Inc.). No experience with the others. I would still go for the
Pentax 67II.

Re: Pentax 6x7II/Digital Back

2001-12-27 Thread Jody L. Reese

Hi Paul - I was quite interested in your comments about the studios in
Detroit. I also shoot large format (4x5) but with the cost of a digital
back for my Cambo I would have to take a second mortgage out if you know
what I mean! Anyway, being interested in digital I purchased a Nikon 990 to
see what it was all about and I am really having a blast with it. Of course
my little camera does not compare with medium or large format but it does
pretty good. I got rid of my 35mm stuff years ago because I did not like
the quality I was getting but like I said this little camera, given its
limitations is fun. I think digital will take a good share of the
point-and-shoot market in the next 5-10 years. Like you I think the demand
for that market will drive the suppliers rather than the high end. Oh well,
I think it will be interesting to see how things go for the film camera
market. Like how long will Pentax support the 67II? Will they develop a
digital back for the camera, will another manufacture make a camera that I
can use my 6x7 lenses with, or will I throw it all away because I can not
find film or paper to use in my darkroom?

acceptance with the working pros every day. And the manufacturers will have
to meet that demand. There are about a dozen major studios in the Detroit
area that shoot large format. These are the really big studios, the ten to
fifteen thousand dollar per day guys who shoot the car company print
advertising and other commercial jobs. Almost all of them are working
exclusively in digital, with the multi CCD backs on the large format
cameras. Their clients are loving it for a number of reasons of which time
> and immediate evaluation are two of the more important ones. These same
clients hire a lot of field photographers who shoot mainly MF. I've heard
that many of the clients are asking for digital.
> I won't be shooting digital for a long time to come, perhaps I never
will. And I think a lot of other hobbyists and lower tier pros feel the same
way. So the market for high end digital won't be gigantic. But it is
important, and there's a need that has to be filled. This market can only
grow. It won't get smaller.

Hi William - thanks for the reply. You got the cold part right, it was
reported that in a couple of spots here in the valley last night it got down
to a -22! Can you imagine what it must have been up Logan Canyon!!!
Anyway, thanks again. Say if you ever decide to move out of 35mm you would
find the change to the 6x7 Pentax an easy one to make. Beyond that the
camera is just pure fun to use. I love the format and even more I love the
quality of pictures it can produce when compared to 35mm. Something to
consider. Have fun - I think I'll spend this Sat. up Logan Canyon shooting
in the snow. :)

Re: Pentax 6x7II/Digital Back

2001-12-27 Thread Jody L. Reese

Hi Bruce,
Good to hear from a - neighbor?!! Be happy that your in Sacramento (my wife
was born there) right now - last night the temp dropped down to -22 in
parts of the valley!
As for the new 67II, Pentax fixed a number of design problems (like the
shutter release button - weak design) that they had with the older versions.
Don't get me wrong I also have 2 of the older body styles but if you were in
the market for a 6x7 I would get the new version. If you go to the Pentax
web site you will find that until the end of Jan. they are offering a
$200.00 discount if you buy a new Pentax 67II with the new TTL Pentaprism.
Also, if you check out the www.calumentphoto.com web site I believe they are
offering the camera for about $1200. The nice thing about the 6x7 lenses is
that which ever version of that particular lens you may want to buy, they
will fit both the older and the newer body style. Finally, if you want to
get an older style 6x7 for a lot less you can always go to www.ebay.com.
Then go to the medium format section and specify your search to Pentax. If
you have not visited that site you will be surprised at the amount of 6x7
gear sold on ebay! Oh course, it is a buyer beware market but I have bought
a lot of gear that way and have not been burned yet. I should mention that
I screen the people very closely that I am considering buying from before
making a bid but if you follow ebay buyer recommendations hopefully you will
be able to come out ok.
