Didn't Ricoh try that back in the 80's? KR-10 I think.

I'd suggest heading over to the DigitalBWThePrint Yahoo Group. This is

I just ignore any emails that tell me my ebay account or paypal account
is in danger of being cancelled. This is because I know, as apparently
the scammers don't, that I do not have an ebay or paypal account in the
first place.

This is a photo of my wife's cousin's daughter taken at a family
outing a few weeks ago. MX, M85/2, HP5+, Ilfosol S 1+9. Of the seven
frames she allowed me to take, this one is my favorite.

Thanks for looking.

Scott,
Soulful, pensive and powerful. Just great!
It has, however, a flat sort of drab look about it. Perhaps a tiny
anount of non-mood breaking contrast to slightly increase depth?..or
not.

The competition will be the Nikon D200 and the followon to the Canon 20D.
A 10MP camera with an APS-C sensor will play just fine in that segment.
Pentax don't even suggest that the *ist-D cameras are intended for the
professional user; their target purchaser is the advanced prosumer at
the high end of their range, and the novice first-time DSLR owner at
the low end.

Glad you liked the shots, Jack.

Poor Little Bit never did get anyone to play with
her when I was there..
but she gets lots of tender loving care. That
pathetic look is just a ruse.

You are reminding me I mis-spelled "Frisbee" as
FRIZBY - but I'm guilty
with an explaination...

A friend of mine some years ago wrote the ultimate
book on frisbee and his
email pun's on it using "FRIZBY" as part of his
name.

I was mucking around with some test exposures and made this up from a

I understand exactly what you're saying and basically agree, unless, the 20D
replacement comes out with >10 MP.

I guess I was looking at it from the standpoint (possibly unrealistic) that
if Pentax does not establish a professional image in the DSLR category, it
will not be to their good. I am stuck with Pentax, unless I, 1) chuck the
whole system for another brand, or 2) keep the Pentax gear as a backup and
buy a new brand. Others are not in the same boat, and I'm not suggesting
that most professionals would go out and invest in a Pentax DSLR.

I am worried that if most buyers, when making a comparison, find that Pentax
is playing 3rd fiddle, they'll likely go with a 2nd or 1st fiddle camera
brand. I know that if I did not have an investment already, Pentax is not
the brand I would buy, whether it be a low-end model or a pro-sumer model.

If competition is as fierce as has been stated (or implied) then the image
(no pun intended) Pentax garners may be as important to their future success
as the products they produce. They are likely sides of the same coin.

I think it behooves them to release a DSLR in the same 1-2 month time frame
as their competition, that equals their competition in every way, both at
the high and low ends of the market.

To tell the truth, I suspect they have already lost the fight and will
dwindle into oblivion as a maker of camera gear. I hope not, but I think
they're just unable to compete. The more biased and lopsided the market
becomes, the fewer sales Pentax will make, the less money will be available
for new product development.

Yeah nice shot! While maybe not art, it looks like a great cycle
advertisement.

Hello Scott,

Like what you caught here. A very determined expression gives some

I don't think I'd want jet-exhaust blowing into my face, no matter
how small the engine is.

Maybe it could use a heat-exchanger to heat the tea water.

Here's an article about these things that I found with Google.

I'll try and remember. Usually I do this, but as John's response had
already included my URL I chopped out that part. Since we're no
longer referencing the pic I'm not going to paste it here :) The
whole thread seems to have made it into the archive BTW.

I think you are right that the fight is lost. Pentax have no Pro level digital
offering and the others have filled the market well. Many people see what the
pro's are using and think if they use the same brand they will be ok. All they
can hope for now is to flood the market with P&S optio's and the like to
maintain any presence in the market place.

I will be jumping ship early 2006 but will keep my 6x7 for my own photo's and
perhaps a single Pentax D for a backup. Unless between now and then we see
something significant to put in the xmas stocking (am I the first to mention
xmas?)
like a 645D with a good size sensor. For the 35mm it would seem Pentax are going
to stay with the APS sensor and this will do fine for 'prosumer' market, but I
fear even this market will be lost if punters have nothing to aspire to.

Kind regards
Kevin
