Re: FA 28-90/3.5-5.6 - Any Good?
Guys, Many thanks for that. For some reason I hadn't considered the 24mm wide angle - and the extra field of view would be handy. I've currently got an old FA 28-80/3.5-4.7 (one of those heavy power zoom ones) stuck on the front of my Z-1. I was thinking of something a bit lighter, but I don't want to buy anything that is optically poor I'll have a look around for some. Cheers, Matt - Original Message - From: "Donald A. FA 28-90/3.5-5.6 - Any Good?
Has anyone got any views on this lens, is it worth buying? Cheers, Matt
SMC-M 28mm / 2.8 Type II
Does any one have any information on the "type II" SMC-M 28mm 2.8 lens? I have seen the description on Bojidar Dimitrov's site (copied below), but have also had information that "many of the original cheaper Takumar versions were re-made at the Penax factories with updated latest SMC coatings, and given the SMC-M label. The main external difference with the original SMC-M 28mm f1:2.8 is the lack of a thin sliver band at front of focus ring. Optic quality of SMC-M, converted "Takumar" SMC-M, and SMC-A are very similar." I understand that these type II lenses are rare, but how much can I expect to pay for one? Thanks, Matt -- http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/ "This lens is extremely interesting. Its lens mount is of the "original K-mount" type, and its name associates it undoubtedly with the M-series of K-mount lenses. On the other hand, the lens shares its most important characteristics with the later SMC-A lens: the linear aperture mechanism and the updated optical formula. Even the focusing ring is of the A-style. Guesses can be made that in 1982 Pentax was already hard at work developing the A-series bodies and lenses, and when parts for the "original" M 28/2.8 lens were depleted, it was decided to switch to production of the new lens, but without exposing the externally visible A-series features - electrical contacts on the lens mount and "A" position on the aperture ring. Still, this lens with its low production numbers is a rather unique piece of K-mount history."
