Thanks, Rick and Larry, too.

I’m off on holiday (vacation…:-p) tomorrow, so I won’t even be lurking for a

to do.

Take care all!

Re: Dusk at Glen Mooar Beach

2016-05-08 Thread Paul Dunderdale
Thanks Rick.

I have a friend who bought into adjustable ND. He’s quite passionate about
long exposure photography (he’s dragged me kicking and screaming into it!). I
get the impression that he is disappointed with it for the same reasons you
state.

I decided to try a six stop and a three stop for flexibility. I can add a
polariser for a bit more if I need to, but so far my best results have come
from the ND6. Lots of experimenting to come!

Then make the camera bags from the very thick cormorant hides and turn profit.
You have to be flexible if you want to solve problems like
Cormorants/Crocodiles/Maria….

You will render the SD card (see above) useless for photographic purposes if
you use it to skin a croc: the smell would be *awful* after a few days.
Please be pragmatic: use a CF card….

For Sale Friday

2011-11-25 Thread Paul Dunderdale
FSF

Hi, all,

I’m rationalising my photo gear, and have some Pentax bits to go. I have not
sold through this forum before, but I have 100% feedback (122 items) at Ebay:
http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/dundertech (and I’m sure Godfrey will vouch for me).

FA135/2.8 - asking £250. Photos: http://gallery.me…uldunderdale/100218

FA20-35/4 - asking £200. Photos: http://gallery.me…uldunderdale/100226
The filter-adjusting door on the lens hood is missing (recognise this, Stan?),
otherwise all is good.

FA50/1.4 - asking £175. Photos: http://gallery.me…uldunderdale/100233

K10-D body - Recent examples on eBay UK have fetched more than £200, so I’ll
take £175. There are all the bits that came with it, two spare batteries and
the Bourque book ‘Pentax K10-D: Everything you need to know and then some’.
Photos: http://gallery.me…uldunderdale/100234

RMSD (insured/trackable) at cost. Payment by PayPal (gift).

Thanks for looking.

Re: Pentax 50-135mm f/2.8 DA* ED IF

2011-05-11 Thread Paul Dunderdale
I bought mine from Godfrey a couple of years ago. So far (touches wood
nervously) I have had no trouble with SDM. It and the 16-50 are my go-to
lenses when I'm not hiking (they're too heavy for hillwalking!) and I won't
have time for frequent lens changing.

Lovely lens for shooting concerts and rehearsals, for portraits and general
low-light work, but it's like a bazooka after using primes, and can be a bit
obtrusive: not really for street work or candids!

If I need longer, I find that the 55-300 is fine for the little use it gets. I
haven't been tempted by the 60-250 (yet).

 Sure do.

I bought one (to complement my 16-50 on the K10D) just before the price
went up. Those two lenses (plus the K10D) are what I take with me for
almost anything (sometimes the E-PL1 wins out because of portability).

Anecdotally, I think I've seen more problems reported with the SDM on
that lens than on any other, but my personal experience has been free
 of any problems.

When I do get round to picking up a 60-250, though, I suspect that the
50-135 will see less use. Bujt until then I trust it will continue to
 serve me well.

Bugger. What happened to the stuff?

AFAIK, things were sold off piecemeal. Lots of items were worse for wear: the
place was damp and unheated, and I guess everything needed a thorough overhaul
when it reached its new home.

I haven't visited the recently opened (last two or three years...) m/c museum
in Kirk Michael yet (Traaie di liooar[1]), but I'm assured it's worth a visit.

The Bungalow (the site of the Murray's Museum) looks like this now:

Pity. Most of the stuff in there was genuine historical artefact rather than
restored. Just a different perspective 8-)

Indeed. But if you had seen the state of the historical artefacts when I last
did, you may well have wept. I nearly did. They at least deserved to be
preserved, not left to rot.

The KM folk, who may or may not be in cahoots with the owners of the collection
at Milntown (which is not on public display yet), seem to keep their collection
on the road - I often see old bikes riding in convoy, and grand it sounds. I'm
fairly sure I've seen some of the Milntown horde riding out, too. For me, this
is a better option. Unrestored racebikes are on show most TT and MGP weeks:
the best of both worlds?

Re: Leica's done with film

2010-08-28 Thread Paul Dunderdale
Crumpets are a North(west) of England thing. They are made from a yeast
batter, and cooked in such a way that the upper surface is pitted with holes
(from the fermentation). Mum always says that crumpets should be served with
an egg in every hole. She served them with an excess of butter (they don't so
much soak up more butter as act as a sump (the vertical holes) and a
lightly poached egg (hence the egg (yolk) in every hole

The crumpets that brave the Irish Sea and arrive at my table are a pale shadow
of those delectable Crumpets Of My Youth. I have tried to make my own, but
haven't yet achieved adequacy. There are hidden depths to crumpets. I'm sure
Cotty would concur.

Yes, a crumpet soaks up more butter than an english muffin, and it has a
richer flavor -- perhaps more egg. All in all, it's superior.

/delurk

First, my *humble* apologies for disturbing your Wa. I have been
lurking hereabouts for a few weeks, but haven't, until now, felt in
any way discombobulated. How the post from Godfrey came to be in my
inbox instead of being safely filtered to the pdml folder is one of
those - many - little computer miracles that are beyond me.

By way of introduction, Hello. My usual habitat is Godfrey's PAW and
SeePhoto lists. I'm quite new to photography, proof of this is
plainly visible at: http://homepage.mac.com/pauldunderdale/Menu2.html

My millions are few, even when counted in groats, and are located not
many miles away in a convenient off-shore tax haven.

There is no need to unsub on my account. Honest.

However, the Manx Government *is* causing significant concern, and
the only way I can satisfy my LBA is to smuggle my groats out of the
system. If any nice person out there would like to help, I will
happily donate 10% to any charity of their choice on receipt of their
verified bank details, their credit card PIN numbers, and their car
keys.

Mr Ognebeybeha is, by the way, and exceedingly kind bloke.
