Re: Fuji Super HG 1600?

2002-02-14 Thread Scott Astin

Very true...but the new Superia 1600 is an excellent
film. From the results Ive had, I would rather shoot
this, than Superia 800 underexposed a stop and
processed accordingly. Contrast is good, Color is
great, and the Grain is superb!

I can't speak from experience, but I've heard that
 Superia 800 shot at 1600

 HG1600. Only a 1 stop
underexposure. Just don't underexpose more than
 that.

 Subject: Fuji Super HG 1600?

  Hello all...

Has anyone out there used Fuji Super HG 1600? It
 looks like the fastest
color print film out there, but also doesn't
 appear to be commonly
available: none of my usual stores here in
Portland stock it and BH has
 an
inconsistent supply. Would it be just as easy to
 push Superia 800?

  Thanks,

  Tim

Press Passes

2002-02-11 Thread Scott Astin

I live in the Salt Lake City area and am going to
school in Logan (about an hour or so from SLC). As a
student with a passion in Photography, (and although
this idea might be too late) I would appreciate any
information on how to get a press pass so that I might
be able to take pictures at the olympics, or for that
matter, any future major sporting events or concerts
etc... Any help would be greatly appreciated

Pentax Focusing Screens

2001-09-15 Thread Scott Astin

Are the Pentax focusing screens interchangable between
bodies...for example, can I put a MX/LX focusing
screen in an MZ-S? What about a PZ-1p?

Also, What screens are available for the MZ-S, and
where can I get info on them?

Thanks,

Scott

Re: Pentax - [small] size matters?

2001-09-07 Thread Scott Astin

I have fairly average sized hands (maybe a bit on the
smaller side) and the feel of the early M/ZX bodies
(the 50 and the 10) were good, although a little small
and fairly plasticky. They were better feeling than
the C the N or the M** equivilant. With
the FG battery pack on my ZX-50 the feel is far
better.

I handled an MZ-S for the first time yesterday. It
feels far more secure, solid, and comfortable then my
ZX-50. I imagine that the problem of the size issue
could be solved by adding the BG-10 Battery pack to
the MZ-S.

For the average wedding shoot shaving 10 or 12 oz off
the weight of the body wont make much of a difference
in the overall weight factor. However, for the
outdoor shooter who uses say a 28-70 2.8 and a
70/80-200 2.8 (OR even amateur zoom lenses like the
new 24-90 and a 70-300) saving a pound of weight in
your pack can be a good thing. Plus the battery pack
(although adding weight) also adds controls for
vertical functionality.

Just my thoughts though.

Any recommendations for really low price mail order
 processing?

You may want to look into Dale Laboratories. They are
a mail order CO. out of Florida and do wonderful 35mm
and medium format work. Ill see if I can find a phone
number for you. Call them and tell them you saw their
ad in the pack of a pop.photography magazine and they
will send you a mailer for your first roll done free!

MZ-S Flash capabilities

2001-08-29 Thread Scott Astin

Ive read Pentax promotional literature that says that
the MZ-S has a flash that can synch up to 1/6000th of
a second with built in flash or accessory units
(360FGZ), but has a standard flash synch of 1/180th of
a second. Can anyone shed some light on this?
