Re: Photoshop
I use Photoshop 5.) on a Mac. The cursor inverts black/white as I move it across the gradient and so stays visible. In full Photoshop 4, 5 and 5.5 on the Mac I've never experienced this -- the cursor inverts its colour when dragged over a dark area. Nope, full blown PhotoShop on PC, create a work-space, make a gradient fill from black to white across the area and then move the cursor across the screen, it will disappear, a simple colour inversion can't prevent this, some simple code with a test and colour offset could. It is surprising how often the problem affects me during editing. I assume that this happens on the Mac? Buying a Scanner
If you really want to keep to a budget [and have a scsi connection], also consider the nikon ls-1000 negative scanner. it was the pre- ls-2000 model. they are pretty cheap on ebay now. i've had one for almost 2 years. it's 2700 dpi. it's fairly fast [about 1 minute for a 2700 dpi scan of a full negative.] the oem software is ok, but the hamrick software also is available for it [at least on a mac platform]. my main complaint is that the scanner sometimes seems to really bring out the grain from some negatives -- i don't know if this is common and simply a function of the resolution. also, it does not have the ICE feature that the LS-2000 and later models have. but, like i said, you can probably get an LS-1000 for a lot less than an LS-2000. Steve .Also I might be able to get a scanner so I need you opinion on which brand and model is best for around $500. Sorry my budget is very low To get a high-quality scanner at near that price, look for a used Nikon LS-2000 on eBay... - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. OT: Amita's Web Page [was RE: Our Faces ]
Amita, I enjoyed your web pages -- both the funny and serious ones. Some very interesting links. I see you've visited the Bronx Botanical Gardens. Between the gardens and the zoo, my wife and I never tire of the photo opportunites presented by the Bronx only 15 minutes from home. Where in Illinois
In fairness, I don't think this was the person Mike referred to. Mike said that the seller contacted him and said that the winning bidder had backed out, so Mike would not be listed as the winning bidder, as he is here. Also, I recall Mike saying that he's been having fun shooting with his newly acquired Olympus digital camera. Steve This was probably it: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemitem=12 64929165 found it by searching for winning bidders with Mikes email address. Hope you don't mind me taking the liberty of posting that mike, most people would want to know who to avoid. I'm sure we'll all have to spam you now for bidding on an Olymp*s camera! What ever happened to... (and some other questions)
John, If you're looking for a repair shop, I've read a few good things about Essex Camera Repair in Carlstadt, although I have no personal experience. For used camera browsing, there's a camera show in Wayne on the second Sunday of every month that can be fun. Greetings from Bergen County, Steve - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Vivitar 100/3.5 Macro
My wife and I have and like this lens [in MF]. We also have the Pentax FA 100 2.8. The Pentax is sharper and a little more contrasty, I think, but the Vivitar also is very good. The Vivitar also is a lot lighter and smaller. The build is plastic, but after 4-5 years and a good amount of use, I've yet to have any problem. The lens goes to 1:2 on its own; the 1:1 adapter is a nice quality, 2 element [I think] closeup lens, that works well. I have not had any compatibility problems, using the lens with a ZX-5n, LX, and Super Program. Here's an example of a picture [my wife's] with this lens: http://home.att.net/~naturephotography/largeyel.htm Bottom line: I think the lens is very good for the money {about $120). The Pentax 100 3.5 I think is the same lens, but is AF and would have the SMC coating. Steve Hello, Does anyone have experience with the Vivitar 100/3.5 Macro lens? I have found many positive opinions especially considering its price. As I know it is identical (the optical formula) to the Pentax FA 100/3.5. What do you think about this lens? Is the Pentax version worth additional 60$ (and the Vivitar comes with a life-size adapter) ? Any compatibility problems? Thanks in advance - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Vivitar 100 3.5 Macro
I should just qualify my prior comment by noting that when I say sharp, I mean my subjective opinion looking at 8 x 10 and a few 11 x 14 enlargements. Also, Keppler did a favorable review of this lens in a mid 1996 edition of Pop Photo. By the way, did anyone see that Pop Photo noted that the MZ-S is the 100th AF camera model to be produced [the Contax was the 99th]. Steve - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. -=-LX questions-=-
Welcome to the LX __ mysteriously absent from the PT Top 25 Cameras. I got my Grip Bs at Keh, although they haven't had any in a while. Camera Direct lists the Grip B [the preformed grip youdon't have to carve yourself]. They're at www.camera-direct.com. Although they're in England, I've just bought small items [LX bottom plate covers] with no difficulty. Shipping was minimal. Camera Direct also lists the equally hard to find strap lugs. Some people have recommended buying an LX on EBay with the grip, then reselling the camera without the grip. Camera Direct also lists new LX bodies. Smile Photo had listed them fairly recently, but I don't know what they're like to deal with. BH carries some LX accessories, including finders and screens [but not the coveted new screens, which Camera Direct ran out of before I could get mine. :( ] Steve - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
