Following the posts last week on my boxed unused *ist D, I decided to watch
a few eBay auctions and then put it up as a buy it now, when I got a feel
for the prices they achieved. I expected more positive prices this side of
Xmas but the selling prices left me disappointed.

I've therefore decided to keep it, prices after Xmas will surely be worse.
It's a matter of changing my view on how I think about digital cameras. I
suppose I am so used to buying a second hand film camera, using it for a few
years and selling it on at more or less the same price as I bought it, that
it stings. If I view it the same way as a computer, washing machine or
similar domestic appliance purchase, I accept from the outset that it's
expensive but will ultimately be an item for recycling. Once you accept
that's where digital cameras now fit in in the scheme of things, you can
settle back and accept it - and enjoy them. So that's what I plan to do and
I now have a new camera for Xmas. The K10D will have to sit on the shopping
list a little longer!

I hope you all have a peaceful Xmas.

Malcolm

Seem to be holding their price well in the UK, DS with kit lens went for BIN
£400 last night on Ebay, starting price was £300.

I sure hope so for all you, boys and girls, but I would not deduct any
conclusions from sales made on the 19th of Dec.

Charles, how about offering it as a BIN only at a price agreed with
the Purser; if it sells fine, if it doesn't no worries.

Re: *ist DS selling price (Beware Nigerian Scammers)

2006-12-19 Thread Mike Hamilton
Another note: the top bidder sent me an email asking me to send the
camera to Nigeria, offering to send me $120 extra to send it. I then
received a fake PayPal payment email. I reported it to eBay and sent
him an email informing him that I would not send the camera to
Nigeria, and that I would not accept any money that he paid me.

I've made a Second Chance offer to the next highest bidder ($496.00).
Hope it works out!

I set the minimum bid at $250, with a Buy-It-Now price of $450. After
the minimum bid was met, the BIN price disappeared.

It's certainly better than the $150 that my local camera shop offered me.

Good luck!

Good move and great price sold for. I am still seeing some new
*istD series kits selling for less but I dont
recall if they were istD, DL, or DS and which kit lenses
they had.

I just sold my *ist DS on ebay (with kit lens, strap, cheap SD card) for
$501.00! That's far more than I had expected, and it's certainly good
news! It goes a long way toward my K10D. :)

Yow!

You've given me hope. Maybe I should talk to the CFO here at the
house and explain that I could get maybe half of the cost of a K10D
back by selling my existing one

Then again, I'd probably end up getting a max bid of $200. :-(

Did you set some sort of minimum, or did you just put it up there and
hope for the best?
