2007-01-31 Thread P. J. Alling
I haven't used any other 85mm than the M f2.0 but I find it to be a
wonderful lens on the D and Ds. One just sold on e-bay for not much
more than a couple hundred dollars. A bargain IMHO.

so a fast, short telephoto is something I'd love to get.

The problem seems to be that finding a 77 ltd (let alone affording one)
appears quite difficult. I gather that Pentax is not keeping up with
demand. From what I've seen of the DA70 ltd, I'd prefer the 77, for that
 extra speed and its reputation.

Are they as hard to find as my web searching leads me to believe? Another
option may be an old 85 1.8, but they're few and far between and also quite
expensive when they do turn up.

 Any suggestions?

I had the M85/2 ... It was very nice but I replaced it with the FA77
Limited. I've since replaced that with the DA70 Limited, and am very
happy having done so. The shorter focal length is more to my liking,
the lighter weight and smaller size too. The FA77 is excellent, but
if you can't find one and you're buying it for the DSLR, there's
absolutely nothing wrong with the DA70 .. and the imaging quality is
virtually identical. Only difference is .7 stops in maximum aperture.

Both the 1.8/77mm and the 1.8/85mm are excellent - well, better than
excellent, actually.
If you are photographing children, choose the 77mm with AF.

BTW: The FA 1.4/50mm is an affardable and excellent alternative, I believe!

I sold mine and replaced it with the DA70/2.4 Limited. Between the

(wide open or stopped down), contrast, or the quality of the out of
focus rendering. It's smaller and lighter ... remarkably, quite a lot
so. There's a little more corner falloff wide open, but by f/4-f/5.6
that is all gone. The Quickshift focusing feature is why I made the
change: it proves to be very very handy to me. And the shorter focal
length is more convenient and useful with the 16x24mm format.

 I'm very happy I had the FA77 ... it's a great lens ... and I'm
equally very happy I traded it off for the DA70 ... I'm only ever
going to work with the Pentax DSLR range and this lens is more
 suitable for that.

77mm f1.8 ltd

2007-01-27 Thread J and K Messervy
I've heard nothing but praise for this lens and have to say that the sample
pics I've seen taken with it are lovely. I'm doing more portraits (mainly
of my kids) lately and am also considering doing my first wedding this year,
so a fast, short telephoto is something I'd love to get.

Any suggestions?

hoardings/billboards advertising pentax cameras nowadays which *is* an
unusual thing, it's been a month since i asked the seller here about an
DFA 100/2.8 macro. he was going to get back to me within a week, but i
still don't know its price, not even whether it's available...i am now
scouting the used lens market :)

regards, subash

I just send an email to my camera store and wait for the lens to arrive.

I ordered a new lens in early December I'm still waiting for it to
arrive. (Admittedly the average wait is usually 3-4 weeks)

It's just one of those things that Aussie Pentax users have to put up with.

Cheers

Re: 77mm f1.8 ltd

2007-01-27 Thread Godfrey DiGiorgi
The FA77/1.8 Limited is a delightful lens and if you want
compatibility to a 35mm SLR as well, it's the natural choice.

I sold mine and replaced it with the DA70/2.4 Limited. Between the
DA70 and the FA77, there is little to no difference in sharpness

I've heard nothing but praise for this lens and have to say that
 the sample
pics I've seen taken with it are lovely. I'm doing more portraits

of my kids) lately and am also considering doing my first wedding
 this year,
so a fast, short telephoto is something I'd love to get.

The problem seems to be that finding a 77 ltd (let alone affording
 one)
appears quite difficult. I gather that Pentax is not keeping up with
demand. From what I've seen of the DA70 ltd, I'd prefer the 77,
 for that
 extra speed and its reputation.

 Another
option may be an old 85 1.8, but they're few and far between and

 Any suggestions?
