Re: 77mm f1.8 ltd
I haven't used any other 85mm than the M f2.0 but I find it to be a wonderful lens on the D and Ds. One just sold on e-bay for not much more than a couple hundred dollars. A bargain IMHO. The problem seems to be that finding a 77 ltd (let alone affording one) appears quite difficult. I gather that Pentax is not keeping up with demand. From what I've seen of the DA70 ltd, I'd prefer the 77, for that extra speed and its reputation. Are they as hard to find as my web searching leads me to believe? Another option may be an old 85 1.8, but they're few and far between and also quite expensive when they do turn up. Any suggestions? Re: 77mm f1.8 ltd
I had the M85/2 ... It was very nice but I replaced it with the FA77 Limited. I've since replaced that with the DA70 Limited, and am very happy having done so. The shorter focal length is more to my liking, the lighter weight and smaller size too. The FA77 is excellent, but if you can't find one and you're buying it for the DSLR, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the DA70 .. and the imaging quality is virtually identical. Only difference is .7 stops in maximum aperture. Godfrey On Jan 31, 2007, at 5:09 PM, P. J. James Both the 1.8/77mm and the 1.8/85mm are excellent - well, better than excellent, actually. If you are photographing children, choose the 77mm with AF.
