Re: A photographer whose work is Blowing Me Away...
The individual links don't work in Firefox but I was able to visit her galleries. They're good but then the images get old, unfortunately quite quickly, for me at least. The few hyper realistic images were better than the dreamy impressionistic stuff, but I doubt that the woman in the People gallery thanked her. Re: A photographer whose work is Blowing Me Away...
From: Darren Addy http://1x.com/photo/19074 Ursula I Abresch explains her technique (for the image linked above, if not many others)... No. It is making two images in camera (that is, if you have a camera that allows you to do so). You set the camera to double (or more exposures if you wish), then make the two images and they're combined in camera into one file. You could also do it in PS, however, I prefer the more natural results you get doing it in camera. PS is a bit too controlled an environment for my taste, in general. Fernand calls it the defocusing technique. I started doing this well before coming to 1X and meeting Fernand, based on work by Freeman Patterson. I believe there are probably a number of names for this technique. That blows me away even more, that she is doing it in camera. Sounds like Tony Sweet. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: A photographer whose work is Blowing Me Away...
Lovely. They have an element of the abstract but a clear subject. I understand her point about not using PS. For some photographer, the discipline of a particular procedure grounds their work in some ways and lets their imagination work in other ways. Greetings PDMLers, I just discovered a photographer on 1x.com that is absolutely Blowing Me Away. You links to individual images did not work for me. I was, however, able to click on Gallery, and see some of her work. Re: A photographer whose work is Blowing Me Away...
Very interesting stuff. I'd suggest highly manipulated images; more digital art than photography, though I'm not complaining. But the viewing experience was marred by 1x.com's atrocious user-interface which manages to make 500px and Flickr look really good in comparison. None of your links produced any images for me, so like Dan, I had to go to the Gallery and navigate from there as best I could. Re: A photographer whose work is Blowing Me Away...
Wow. I am mystified by the links not working. I do understand URLs, etc. but you are all right... they don't work now (not even the one to her gallery) where I could view all of them (small) on one page. Here is an alternative link to her photos (not the same view that I originally had but multi-page) http://1x.com/#!/artist/ursula/photos The link above will automatically redirect to: http://1x.com/artist/ursula/photos If I get time I will try to repost with links that work to the images I was directly pointing at. http://1x.com/photo/19074 Ursula I Abresch explains her technique (for the image linked above, if not many others)... -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Cf: Orton Effect (one of its names). Freeman Patterson is an amazing photographer and gardener. His garden photography work is mind boggling. I have a number of FP books and prize them all. Re: A photographer whose work is Blowing Me Away...
Glad to hear that, Bruce! Since she mentions him and his book in her explanation of how she did a couple of her shots. For that reason I snagged a decently priced copy of Photo Impressionism and the Subjective Image: An Imagination Workshop for Photographers yesterday and today ordered a cheap copy of his Photography and the Art of Seeing. I've also only now discovered that you can do Multiple Exposure (in camera) on a lot of Pentax models, including (naturally) the K-5. I'm still not convinced that I will like the results as much as I would like the control of doing it in post (layers) but we'll see.
