It will be if we can get an Internet connection at the gallery (I
emailed Sue Barton but haven't received a reply yet). Even better if
it's hard-wired rather than wireless, because it's faster and we'll be
able to go for a better quality feed.

Then again, if it's wireless I could walk the laptop by all the photos
in the exhibit to let viewers around the world seem them on display!

Rent a Hover-Round or "borrow" one of the local supermarket's electric
shoppers and bungee your laptop to the basket for a smooth round-room
pan. If you need it, a light 32° off center will help light the crowds
as well as even the illumination on the prints. :-)

If anyone has one of those firewire video cameras you could do it in

I don't think it will work properly unless you have OS-X Server (not just

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/broadcaster/faq.html

To how many viewers can QuickTime Broadcaster deliver a live event?

QuickTime Broadcaster sends out a single stream that can be viewed by
one QuickTime Player on a standards-compliant device. If more than one
QuickTime Player will view your broadcast you will need access to a
streaming server or a multicast-enabled network. For more information
about using a streaming server with QuickTime Broadcaster or
multicasting please visit QuickTime Broadcaster Help, located under
the Help menu in the application.

Where can I find a list of companies offering webcasting services?

Visit our QuickTime Services page for a list of companies offering
webcasting services and more.

I've seen my Twitter contacts and such use "ustream" for streaming
video. Based on the kinds of things they've used it for, there's no
way they're spending much money or effort on it.

http://www.ustream.tv/

Unfortunately I can't do any research on it at this moment.

Re: Anyone looking into doing the webcam video from Chicago?

2010-04-27 Thread Stan Halpin
I have done a little Google research on this. Note that so far I was assuming
use of my Mac, have not delved into what may be available on the Windows side.
1. Skype allows "conference calls" but I suspect this is an expensive and
cumbersome way to go.
2. There are many programs that support video upload, e.g. to your own web site
or to YouTube.
3. Streaming video is a problem though. Most solutions for the Mac build on
OS-X Server tools.
4. I skipped by a couple of high-dollar commercial solutions.

5.. This may be a likely cross-platform solution, but my initial impression is
that it requires a higher geek factor than I am able to bring to bear.
