If the films were refrigerated or frozen, they might be surprisingly good. The
Ektachrome and Fujichrome may give you some pretty strange colors. The others
are print films, and many color-shift sins can be absolved in printing.

 Hi all,

I just picked up a batch of film from my local freecycle
 list.  I
 thought they were non-expired,
but sadly, that is not the case.  So of the films
 below, are any worth
 my developing dollars?
(I know I can get C-41 done for somewhat cheap down at my
 local Walgreens)
I'm guessing I should just throw it all out.

 FILM

         EXP DATE
          PROCESS
 Kodak Ektachrome 100 HC
 1991-08

 Kodak Max 400

 2004-09
       C-41
 Fujichrome Provia 100
       1996-12
           CR-56
 Fujicolor Superia Reala
        -??

 C-41
 Kodak Gold 200

    -??
              C-41

 Thanks!

PS:  Ektachrome slide film from 1991?  20 years
 expired.  Wow.

So skip the slide film and give the print film a go?
Or did I misinterpret that.

A lot depends on how they were stored. If whoever had them was keeping
them refrigerated, they should still be usable. I wouldn't use them for
critical application (i.e. a paying client), but they're worth playing
with.

One thing to consider is using the E-6 films for cross processing (i.e.
have Walgreens run them through the C-41 machine). C-41 processing at
the mini-labs is pretty cheap. IIRC, we charged about $1.50/roll for
process only when I was running the mini-lab at Target.

Process CR-56 is the same as E-6, I think it's just a designation that
Fuji uses for their license of the E-6 process.

If they were refrigerated, the slide films should be good too.

If they were not, the color negative films will have more resilience to
the less than optimal storage, but the slide films can be processed in
color negative (C-41) chemistry.

They will give strange color shifts if you do.

That is not necessarily a bad thing.

I suggest use all the C41 films freely for non-critical work.
They seem to withstand time and storage at room temperature without
significant deterioration.
I have no experience with dated slide films, though.

Yes, unless you're feeling courageous and the slide films were refrigerated or
frozen.

Don't know. The processes are still available, the Ektachrome is E6
BTW. i'd expect quite a bit of color shift in some cases. Maybe I'm a
bad person to reply as I'm exposing some Konica VX 100 that expired in '98.
