Crazy idea: Couple the IS optical train with a negative element (all in body) and then couldn't you put a full-frame image on a non-full frame image sensor? Could it be that they are working on image stabilization within the body of the camera that will work with all current and not-so-current lenses? Just speculation. Re: Asahi patent for image stabilization....
I see that the Pentax patent is similar to Nikon's implementation of the IS feature. This means that it should work at approximately one stop slower shutter speed than Canon's IS - about three stop worth is gained as opposed to Canon's two. Asahi patent for image stabilization....
All, Here's another cool patent that was awarded today. It's US Patent Number 6,374,048 for Device for correcting a tremble of a focused image. The drawings for this one are also very detailed, indicating that they actually built it --Mark http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1Sect2=HITOFFd=PALLp=1 u=/netahtml/srchnum.htmr=1f=Gl=50s1='6,374,048'.WKU.OS=PN/6,374,048RS =PN/6,374,048 - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
