In the Winter of '49 I had to stand perimeter 'fence watch' at Great 
Lakes Naval, and I 'bout froze my little butt off! I learned what the 
breezes and lake moisture would do, acting together!

From then on, I knew what "bitter cold" really WAS!  :-D

I was born and raised in northern Ohio, a couple of miles from Lake 
Erie, and I thought I knew what lake weather was all about. I was 
wrong...

That's just bad scripting:-). Anyone who grew up on 102nd and Avenue E  
would say he grew up on the East Side. What do those Hollywood guys

It's currently 7F in Chicago right now, but as they say, it's cooler by the 
lake; I'm about 15-20 minutes west of Lake Michigan (West of Foster Beach; 
course everything is west of Lake Michigan :-))  If you want to play a joke 
on someone new to Chicago, just tell them you live on the East Side, Ha!  I 
also used to tend bar in a neighborhood place that didn't have a juke box & 
we used to send 1st timers to the back room with a quarter to play music. 
Ha!  The good ole'days! Ha!  Miss them!  Anyway, down to -3F tonight they 
say, but it's supposed to start warming up over the weekend & in the 30s
