RE: Autofocus on MZ5 (ZX5)
As much as I would like to encourage you to scrap the Sigma ( bought one one time for my wife's Minolta only to have it fall apart 12 months down the track) I think there may be a mirror alignment problem. The mirror plays an important part in the viewfinder image as well as providing the target to the autofocus sensor array. Sigma lenses have known to have some self-destructive devices built-in. regards, Alan Chan I've noticed that the autofocus on my MZ5 seems less accurate now than when I first got it. Has anyone else had problems with this? The AF seems to often settle on a focus that I can easily see is wrong in the viewfinder. But when I first bought the camera, this didn't happen. The lens is a Sigma 28-80 f3.5-5.6. I suspect the contacts between the lens and camera may need cleaning, but I'm not sure how to do that. I also have to check whether it is certain filters making the problem worse. Circular polarisers don't seem to help. It makes AF a bit pointless because I end up manually focussing. Re: Autofocus on MZ5 (ZX5)
Hi, If the focus is still wrong on the film, it's probably the lens. But did you check the dioptre setting on the viewfinder? I had a similar experience until I realised what had happened. Best way to find out is to take half a roll on AF, and the other half on MF, and compare the results. -- Kristian On Monday, November 5, 2001, at 03:40 AM, Rob Geraghty wrote: I've noticed that the autofocus on my MZ5 seems less accurate now than when I first got it. RE: Autofocus on MZ5 (ZX5)
Actually I had a similar experience many years ago. When I still had my Nikon F801s, I discovered the Tamron SP 35-105/2.8 had similar problem. When the body sensor indicated it was in focus, the viewfinder image was slightly blurred. When the viewfinder image was sharp, the sensor indicated it wasn't in focus. Since my other Nikkor AF lenses didn't have this problem, it must be the Tamron lens. I have never figured out what the cause was though. :( regards, Alan Chan As much as I would like to encourage you to scrap the Sigma ( bought one one time for my wife's Minolta only to have it fall apart 12 months down the track) I think there may be a mirror alignment problem.
