Thanks Dan, Well some of them just ride through and eat their way across by stopping every chance they get to eat homemade pies and chicken noodle dinners. They start 5 am every morning and ride 100 miles. There is another group that starts at 11 am makes an effort to stop in every small town tavern and talk to the locals. They ride 60 miles in 12 hrs. All seem to have a lot of fun. By the way Iowa isn't nearly as flat as they were led to believe. Daniel J. Thanks Rick, with 10,000 riders there are bikes of all sorts in the 2 hrs I took pictures there were maybe 6 tandems and maybe 25 recumbants of one style or another. I had a lot of fun with panning as well more documentary and portrait photos which I will link to later. Answering my own question, I googled it and found that it's common and well regarded to set up a tandem's cranks out-of-phase (OOP), by anything from two chain teeth up to 90 degrees.
