Shel,
I would suggest a mild soap and hot water...

Any suggestions for cleaning out the card bay in the DS? The summer
months

get pretty dusty around here - might it be an issue if dust or fine grit
gets into the card bay? Would blowing it out with compressed air be OK,
or

is there a better alternative? IOs there something that'll slide into the
bay in lie of the card that might clean provide some cleaning action?

Sage advice from a man who puts gravy on everything ... or so it's been
reported here.

I would think blowing it out is fine. But it probably doesn't even need
that. My two D cameras both predate the first S. I've used them in all
kinds of nasty conditions, and I've never had a problem with card
contact.

Unless it gets REALLY dirty, I wouldn't worry about the dust. The act
of inserting and removing an SD card produces a sliding action on the
contacts, which should sweep anything in the way off of them. If it
gets wet though, then you might have a problem.
