This nice tool also allows to change EXIF params (useful for example for copyright notes and extended crop). Thanks John, you got me pointed in the right direction. I just downloaded/compiled a utility called exifprobe on one of my Linux boxes here. Fed it a raw file from my DS2. It seems that MakerNote Tag numger 0x0029 doesn't exist in the file. Does someone have a raw file from an original DS, and/or from an *istD I could take a look at, just to make sure my utility is working? -Mat -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
Re: Dumb *istDS/DS2 question
It's not technically an EXIF field. But the Pentax MakerNote tag is itself formatted like a TIFF IFD, using private tag identifiers. Tag 41 identifies the total exposure count (a 32-bit integer). "Interoperability Offset" is the offset to the EXIF-defined interoperability tag set. I'm not 100% certain what "interoperability" means, but I believe it's a way of associating a set of regular-format EXIF tags with a file which might otherwise not be in EXIF format. Re: Dumb *istDS/DS2 question
It's probably in there but you need a TIFF parser to see it. If you make two exposures back to back of a plain white field, all settings manual and the same, the only difference will be timestamps and exposure count, file name, so you should be able to find it that way. RE: Dumb *istDS/DS2 question
I don'tr see a feild like that in the EXIF data of my *ist D. However, there's a field saying: InteroperabilityOffset: 56362 What on earth does that mean? I know my D has taken appr. 4 shots. Dumb *istDS/DS2 question
I looked through my list archives, and I found a reference to a field in the EXIF data coming out of the *istD that will tell you how many shots the camera has taken. Is there a similar field in the EXIF data on the DS/DS2? Or some other way to find out the total exposure count for the camera? -Mat -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
