One of the great misconceptions of popular music is that 'funk' was invented
in Motown in the 1960s. Today I attended a recital where it was conclusively
demonstrated that on the contrary, it is a development in English music of
the 18th century.

Man, those boys are mighty white! 

That damnable Frenchy Voltaire said that the English thought it good to hang
an Admiral from time to time, to encourage the others. That fellow at the
back is showing that some admirals at least were very well hung indeed.
