Re: OT: Happy JRR Tolkien's Birthday
You know that's very true, hard science fiction masquerading as fantasy or fantasy masquerading as hard science fiction. I'd doubt most Hollywood producers would understand it well enough to do a good job. Not to mention Gollum. One of the best computer generated characters ever. Still, the strength of the TT are how marvelous the cinematography is and how human the characters are. First, it was presented more like a mindless beast, while the trolls are quite reasonable creatures, although evil - as presented in The Hobbit. Second, the animation was quite poor IMHO. I hope the animation of Gollum is better. On the other hand I like the look of Balrog - a fearful combination of flames and smoke. I definitely agree with you about the human characters. I've been particularly impressed with Aragorn, Boromir and Saruman (great job from Christopher Lee - he really knows how to play evil characters - I also enjoy his play as Count Dooku in the Star Wars - Episode 2: Attack of the Clones; his voice is stunning). Also battle scenes in the Fellowship... were gorgeous (my favourite 3 moments are: Legolas sticking his arrow into the eye of an Uruk-hai, then pulling it out and firing it with his bow into the head of another Uruk-hai; the duel between Aragorn and the Uruk-hai commander; the bravery of Boromir at his end). I'm looking forward to seeing battles in the Two Towers - especially the battle of the Helm's Deep. Regards Artur --r-e-k-l-a-m-a- Super tanie kwatery narciarskie. I saw it a couple of weeks ago. If you liked the battle scenes in Fellowship, then you most certainly won't be disappointed in Towers. Simply incredible battle scenes, and the story is much more in-depth than the first installment. One recommendation: don't get an extra-large tub o' beverage before sitting down to watch this, unless the restroom is REALLY close by. :) - Original Message - From: Artur Ledóchowski [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, January 04, 2003 9:53 AM Subject: Re: Happy JRR Tolkien's Birthday Actually, the only thing I disliked in the Fellowship... was the troll. OT: Happy JRR Tolkien's Birthday
JRR Tolkien begins the Lord of the Rings tale with a 111th birthday party for Bilbo Baggins, calling it an eleventy-first birthday ... a very curious number and a very respectable age for a Hobbit. Today is Tolkien's eleventy-first birthday. --Mike
