Help! Stuck lenses

2001-05-27 Thread Robert McGraw

I have two Suntar Auto screw-mount lenses.* When I used
them on my Spotmatic F, I had trouble unscrewing them to
remove them. (They worked fine on the Chinon camera they
were bought for, but the Chinon is long gone.)

It seems as though the little diaphragm actuator pin (on the
back of the lens) does not retract into the lens quite as
much as it should. Therefore, the pin hits something inside
the Spotmatic, which stops the lens from unscrewing. I
think it may be hitting the little metal lever at the top
left of the housing (about the 11 o'clock position.)

I used the lenses a few times, and the problem occured
probably 80% of the time.
When it happens, all I can do is fiddle with the lens auto
lever, and hold the camera upside down and shake it until
the pin retracts. It can take awhile and be very scary.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

Could I solve the problem by filing the actuator pin on the
lens a little shorter.
(I won't use these lenses again unless I can fix the
problem, and I'm sure not going to mess with the Spotmatic
mechanism.)

Thank you.
