Re: I really like the MZ-S!
Well, given the other thread, I guess we know the fate of the F6 (flim version, anyway.) I've been getting really nice results with it lately and am really happy with the user interface. Well, I like it too. It just makes me wanting to go out and take photos - very intuitive and it has JUST right set of features to feel free to take almost every kind of photos. It's just pity we couldn't see Pentax DSLR with this kind of classic interface and full K compatibility. Anyway after a few days of *istD testing I came back to my trusty MZ-S and just feel better with it. I just wasn't impresed with *istD except for the fact that it was digital. I hope that film sticks around for a while. I am sure it will. There are billions of film cameras around, it is not easy to convince people to trash'em all at once. And I still can't see any alternative for slides, of course for these, who like slides projecting. -- Best Regards Sylwek

Me too. RE: Autofocus sensor, I'm a focus and reocmpose kinda guy. And, to be honest, I've gone back to MF most of the time. Steven Desjardins Department of Chemistry Washington and Lee University Lexington, VA 24450 (540) 458-8873 FAX: (540) 458-8878 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Or even better - give us the digital with the mz-s ergonomics and handling (but give us an extra thumb wheel so we can change aperture from the body OR the lens too). I love soo much about the istD, but whenever I pick up the mz-s it just feels s right! -Original Message- From: Mark Erickson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 11 November 2003 17:05 To: pentax-discuss Subject: I really like the MZ-S! Re: I really like the MZ-S!
Mark, Before I sold off my 35mm gear, MZ-S was my camera of choice. It is a wonderful camera - great interface, size and ergonomics were just right for my hands. I, too, hope film sticks around. RE: I really like the MZ-S!
I hope for both. :) That is, I hope that film will be here for quite a while as well as I would like to see an MZ-S like digital camera. Not that I think istD is not good, it looks to be a terrific camera among it's digital peers, but every time I pick up MZ-S instantly I feel very big urge to use it, to press that shutter release button and to hear it's baang whiiizzz when taking photographs. Just love it. I do know what you mean with feeling right. Yep. I don't believe it will happen though. Re: I really like the MZ-S!
I have to agree, the MZ-S is a real pleasure to use. Even when I'm not using it, I want to pick it up and take pictures. As well, the data imprinting is very useful. If you shoot several rolls of film in a single day, it's easy to put them in order (over 160 rolls so far, and more pleased with every one). The AF is really good, even in dim light. As for it being fiddly to change AF sensors, when the Auto setting doesn't suit the job, like for a portrait vertical, I just slide the switch to Lock and use the sensor I used last time (usually the second from the right, to line up with the model's eye). It's rare that I need to lock on another sensor, but it's not that difficult to choose another. The MZ-S may not suit everyone, but it certainly suits me. Pat White

Jose R. Rodriguez schrieb: Even though the *istD is a very nice camera, I have recently considered purchasing the MZ-S. I just ordered one... I really like all of its feature, especially the way it handles and that the body is made of a magnesium alloy. ... for exactly the same reasons. I especially like the user interface an the data imprinting function. That being said, I think/hope that Pentax updates it with at least the following improvements: * updated AF system (SAFOX VIII or better) w/improved AF selector The AF selector of the MZ-S is not bad, its just that everybody seems to use it the wrong way. It is easy to use if you don't take he camera from your eye. With the left hand holding the camera from below with the left thumb being on the left of the lens mount, use the left index finger to push the AF selector button, and use the right thumb and/or index finger to turn the wheel to select the AF sensor. It seems to me that SAFOX VII is not at all worse than SAFOX VIII. OK, there is no cross sensor, but if you KNOW that the selected AF sensor is a horizontal or vertical one, you know what it can and will do, thus that you can act and select accordingly. With SAFOX VIII. you never know what the sensor is concentrating on: horizontal or vertical structures. Also, I am under the impression that the linear sensors of SAFOX VII are more precise and work better in low light. * improved weather sealing (closer to the LX) * magnesium alloy camera back (not plastic) these of course would be nice * 1/3 stop exposure adjustment * 1/8000 sec top shutter speed * 1/250 sync speed these only could be available by making the body larger, and 1/8000 shutter speed I never need. * at least 3+ fps (not as important as the others above) not at all important to me I know this has been discussed in the past, but what are the chances Pentax will put out a MZ-Sn, when it appears that all the rave is digital... I would say that the chances are nil. There is a much bigger chance that Penbax will discontinue more analogue SLRs and introduce more DSLRs. Already, the MZ3 is no longer made. Who knows what model will be next? The MZ-S never was a high volume camera. I doubt that Pentax is earning money with it. They probably only introduced it to have a top model at all, in order not to loose all ambitious Pentax photographers. Now the *ist D took over this function. The MZ-S already seems like a leftover from the past. Grab one while it is still available Arnold
