My opinion is you should escalate only if necessary. First things
first: talk to the seller politely and tell him what you want. I
propose a full refund, including postage even if his policy says
otherwise. This is an outrageously broken lens. If he does not play
ball, then escalate. Take a deep breath and write a small, polite
email.

Good luck.

Re: Is this fungus?

2004-11-11 Thread Bob Blakely
That is not fungus. The correct term for what you see there is "ugly shit".
Now, "ugly shit" is not an authorized PENTAX SMC coating enhancement.
Further, no PENTAX lens, SMC or not, has ever had it's optical quality
enhanced by "ugly shit". Return this lens and tell the purveyor that you did
not authorize the "ugly shit" enhancement and you want your money back. If
you paid using Papal, talk to them first. They do have some sort of
"insurance."

The front elements contain many white dots - here is the picture:

Re: Is this fungus?

2004-11-11 Thread Jostein
Wow... The only chance for that lens to be MINT is if the dots are
sprayed on with mint cream aka "After Eight".
I've never seen a lens with element separation, so I wouldn't know the
difference, but there are fungi with growing patterns like that too.

Anyways, it's certainly a full refund case!

Hope you get your money back, Peter.

That's horrible! I can't tell if it's fungus or lens element
separation, but you need to get a complete refund ASAP. As the lens
has been grossly misrepresented, I'd try to get your shipping both
ways refunded, too.

Ask the seller if he sent you the wrong lens. If he's selling that
many items, it's possible he grabbed the wrong one to put in the box.

Peter... Whatever it is, it's nasty and you don't want it near your other

plus shipping charges. That's certainly not MINT-.

I got a lens last month that looked like it had been stuffed with cotton! I
