Its not a K-1. But its a step in the right direction

2018-07-18 Thread J.C. O'Connell

Well after 12 years of service, I finally upgraded my istDS body.
I just ordered a like new (under 100 shutter count) K-5 IIs in the box.
I will be getting wider ISO range, higher usable ISO, better AF, larger
color LCD, shake reduction, live view, movie mode, and nearly triple the
resolutiion amoung other features. Big improvement for only $$429 shipped
with a six month warranty included with the deal. Im wondering why I waited
so long, well my istDS never gave me any trouble and worked well enough I
guess. But it was very limited in low light situations, high ISO were out.

Should be a nice competent rig, JC.
Sounds like a lucky find.
Hope so!

Congrats on the K-5IIs, J.C.
An excellent choice. You are gonna be DELIGHTED with the images you
get, compared to your istDS!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, the istDS was a CCD sensor, the K-5 IIs
is a CMOS sensor, more refined.

They also offered me a five year parts and labor warranty
with no deductable for $32 which seems like a good deal on
an electronic camera. Assuming the camera checks out ok when
I get it, I just might take em up on that deal too.

Thanks. And beauty part is, I didnt have to sell off any of my many choice
prime K and A
lenses to finance it. The only way I could have swung a K-1 would have
been by doing just that.

The improvement in image quality between the ist and the K-5 will be
tremendous (based on my K100 experience). This way you get the big jump
to the K-5, then later you get to enjoy another big jump to full frame.

Seriously though, apart from special situation, for the most part you
wouldn't notice the image quality difference between the k-5 and the
k-1. If I look at my photos from the trip it's not obvious at all which
ones I took with the K-1 vs the K-3. The big differences come in very
low light, and very wide lenses. Also being able to use legacy glass at
its nominal field of view.

But, yeah, you'll be thrilled. It'll take a while to learn how to get
the absolute best performance out of the camera. Don't be afraid to
push the ISO to at least 8000 in low light. I've got some great shots
from mine at 10,000 and even 25,000. Tav is incredibly handy.
