Maybe you should not have let your flash do the software upgrade and done it
yourself, instead.

K-1 quirks

2016-12-05 Thread Igor PDML-StR

Larry,

Despite doing the software upgrade a few weeks ago, my metz 58 is still
not working with the K-1.

it yourself instead! ;-)

(Those Dang[!]Ling participles ... )

I haven't had K-1 in my hands, but AF-C disabling the flash seems odd.
I've definitely used the flash with AF-C on K-7 and K5-sII.
The autofocus assist light, on the other hand, - I see why that could be
disabled: With the AF-S, that light goes off once the camera locks the
focus. With AF-C, - it would have to be on as long as you are holding your
button half way down. Someone might consider that being unreasonable.

Despite doing the software upgrade a few weeks ago, my metz 58 is still
not working with the K-1. On the K-5 it shows PTTL, but on the K-1, just
TTL, and seems to always fire at full power.

I checked on the K-5 IIs I have here and AF-C works with the AF IR
beam on the flash and the flash fires. I would imagine the K-3 is the
same because I usually leave it in AF-C. Mine is at a friend's house
right now though so I cannot check. Have you tried a pentax flash with
it? It might be that it isn't liking your flash.

If you have the rear screen turned off on the K-3 it doesn't flash the
mode as well. Best I can say is to memorize the number of clicks to
your next preferred mode. You can usually tell what mode it is in by
what settings are changeable in the viewfinder too. Like on the K-5
IIs AV and M are only two clicks apart. I think they are all like that
with TAv in between.

2016-12-03 Thread William Robb
You can, with the new firmware, set the rear screen to deep red night
vision colour.
At least that won't blind you when you check your shooting mode.

Another one that I forgot to ask about. With all of my other cameras,
when I'd change the mode (M, Av, TAv, Tv ...) it would briefly display
on the back LCD what the new mode was. Now, that doesn't happen. There
doesn't seem to be a way to see the shooting mode in the dark without
going to the idiot screen on the back that shows everything, shines in
your face and runs the battery down. Am I missing a menu item to show
that info?
