The KM and K1000 had centering-type needles and CdS meter cells; the KX and K2 had needles that went all the way from the top of the viewfinder to the bottom (and a pointer that indicated where the shutter speed was set) with Silicon photodiode meter cells. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
Re: KX dead meter
Peter, The KX doesn't turn on the meter until you pull the winder lever into the standoff position. Pull it out just a bit and have another go at it. (Eric @ PentaxRepairs pointed this out to me one day when I asked him to repair my KX meter.) ;-) Regards, Bob S. All the K bodies, (KM, KX K2, K1000), had meter needles. The meter circuitry seems to be the weak point of the KX: I've been through several with dead meters. I never completed troubleshooting to 100% certainty, but it seems very likely that the culprit is the integrated circuit that comprises the most of the meter electronics. I never determined exactly what the chip is but it's an 8-pin SOIC and most likely is a dual op-amp or comparator, so if you could determine the pinout, finding a suitable replacement shouldn't be too difficult (though soldering it onto the flexible "circuit board" might be another story). No, I don't have a schematic diagram :( -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
KX dead meter
Hi, I acquired a nice KX recently to complete my other xX series cameras (MX and LX) and I found that the needle in the viewfinder is not moving and is always pointing upwards. However if I press the battery check button it moves down (at 1/30s setting IIRC) so hopefully it's not dead completely. Any ideas what could be wrong?
