Thanks for the heads-up, Igor. The sky cleared here and I was able to catch some glimpses through a window at 1/4, 3/4 and full eclipse. Pretty cool colour. RE: Lunar Eclipse Tonight
Yep... and I'm planning on shooting it... the weather is supposed to be partly cloudy in these parts tonight, which should allow for some interest in the shots as the moon will be too high to be close to the horizon. That is assuming the moon is visible through the partly clear spaces. Tom C. From: Daniel J. Hi, I think I'm going to try to shoot it too.. Moonrise here (California) is at 6 pm and totality is between 7.23 pm and 8.45 pm.. I guess I'll try to shoot the onset of totality when the moon is lower in the sky. It's cloudy here too, though, and there's a thunderstorm forecast - I hope that doesn't hit! Any suggestions on exposure? The sky was very clear tonight for the eclipse. Using the links Bob and someone else forwarded on how to shoot this event i tried aroll in the SP500 last night with the tak 200 and 2x. I hope i adjusted properly for the 2x.Did some short bulb shots near the end at various X seconds opened. Time will tell.:-) I also set my Wild T1a survey transit up so i could get a better view than through a 200 2x set up.Very nice to have. Re: Lunar eclipse tonight
I tried to get a few, although my lunar shooting has left much to be desired in the past. I used my 500 mm mirror lens, as it's the only one that gives me an acceptably large image. It was a great eclipse, however. At least where I was, the sky was clear an we had a great view. Easily the best lunar eclipse I've seen. IIRC, the image size would be the same regardless of format. It's just that the image would take up more of the frame on a smaller format and less of the frame on a larger format. cool, clear, and windless here just an hour north of Amita. i took some pictures with my Sigma 50-500. the ISO 200 ones worked but were small and some blur because of the long exposures. then i added a 2X extender and shifted to ISO 1600. didn't notice that the EV was now out of range and underexposed by about 2-3 stops. compensated in Photolab but the images were far too noisy to be of any practical use.
