RE: MZ-S price drop?
Let's not get carried away here. If there was a price drop, the legit houses would have dropped theirs as well. What was shown was a gray market price. What we may be seeing here is reaction caused by the major digital cameras that were announced at PMA, with no similar announcement from Pentax. Kind of like some folks are abandoning ship and just want to get rid of their current inventory of high-end film Pentaxes. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess. RE: MZ-S price drop
Another great site if you are buying on-line is; www.resellerratings.com They let people rate on-line and mail order companies. Also on a previous post someone said they would only deal with B&H and Adorama. I would like to add a couple other companies that are above board reputable. Cameraworld, Hunts, Calumet, Samy's. Re: MZ-S price drop?
Tiger, If there's been an actual wholesale price drop, then B&H, Adorama, and CameraWorld will drop their prices (although not necessarily at the same time). Otherwise, you're probably seeing the "bait" part of a typical "bait and switch" ripoff technique. I know that not everyone here is in love with photo.net, but one really great resource that they have is their neighbor-to-neighbor database. Before you try to purchase something from an ad in the back of Popular Photography, you should go to photo.net and see how many people have been ripped off by the company that you're looking at. Here's a link to their page: http://www.photo.net/neighbor/one-subcategory?id=2 --Mark On 14 Mar 2002 at 6:04, Tiger Moses wrote: > Got the April issue of PopPhoto Mag last night in the mail. > Quite a few places listed Pentax Kits with the MZ-S for a low as $719, > for the body, lense (28-80), battery, roll of film and maybe a strap. > > One place had the body listed at $649.00 (but their website said $724). > > I'm going to call today and see if I can order one at $649 - wish me luck! - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: MZ-S price drop?
Tiger, I called up one of the mail order houses recently that listed a lower priced MZ-S in the magazine ad. On the phone, they told me that the price was for a import body, and the U.S. model was higher and had to be purchased with Mack insurance for around $800. I guess it was the typical bait and switch. Let us know if you have luck finding a good price. I'm also looking for a MZ-S. Thanks. Nancy - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: MZ-S price drop?
Just beware, do not give your CC number at first request for it! After you ask for the body price and anything you want to add, ask for how they will ship and how much it will be! The catch here could be that you will be overly charge for shipping, cancelling any saving you made in the MZ-S and any "special" pricing they may have given to you to any other stuff you may have ordered. Beware of any "push" selling. If the ask for a credit card first, do not give it to them! and hang up!
