That sucks...they must not value their work very much. How do they make their money? I didn't see any info on prints or prices on the web site. RED Ribbon? Clearly a second class operation. -p On 7/26/2010 8:50 AM, David J Brooks wrote: http://www.redribbonphotography.net/ Read the last paragraph in the white text. Say's it all. Re: Another reason I was not making money
I've done the same at times. I'm currently allowing free downloads or my pics for people who sell at a local farmers market. I've found it frequently translates to more print sales rather than less. People's perception of cost of things has changed. It used to be expensive, or at least difficult to make copies of photos, or music, these days it can be done effectively for free. And, it's going to get worse as kids who grew up with digital copies grow up. I hope that people still consider someone's time worth something, which would make it possible to sell photography, even if it's tough to sell photographs. The problem you run into there is even a newbie with a Canon Rebel and a kit lens can get photos that are good enough to satisfy someone who would make an 8x10 print off a 640x480 jpeg. Even worse are the talented amateurs who 20 years ago might have been able to make a living at photography, who basically do event photography for the ego gratification of people telling them how great their photos are. Yes I do, as a commercial photographer, but my main source of income is graphic designing. I charge them for film, DP, expenses plus 35%. RE: Making money
From my accounting the last couple of years I usually average being in the red only a couple to four hundred dollars. Not bad for a year worth of shooting whatever I want. The money does help subsidize. I think I lack the business sense and tenacity to make a go at it professionally.
