Late to the party: Wonderful image, nicely rendered, and I agree with
others about the dust. Congrats, Dave!

Yep, it's always amusing to me when a quick grab could be better than a
carefully-planned photo.

As for your awards,

submitted 6 photos and won a first and two thirds,

I thought four thirds could've been more interesting to win. ;-)

Cheers!

I'm sure you'll win something...
My vote for most likely is the cats with the squirrel on the screen -
given the unusualness - though there are many that are more
_technically_ accomplished, I think decisive moment trumps

pretty.

Another is the three guys - really captures the character of them.

do they let you win in more than one category? is it blind voting?

Good luck!

Great stuff, Dave. Two that stand out for me are the swan family and
the goalie stick. All in all a wonderful set. You should get a few
prizes from this year's bunch. Very well done!

A very nice selection. I especially like 'flower-5833' and '60
dbrooks'. Of the birds, my favourite is '20110620-DSC 1949', the close
cropped version of the swans. 'bird-6010' is excellent but I'd be
tempted to crop out the feed table.

Good luck!!

Peso's Markham Fair walk around

2010-10-04 Thread David J Brooks
Took a few photos on Saturday whist strolling the fair.

I don't walk anymore, i stroll.

1928 Case;
http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=11746092
desaturated and bumped up the reds.

Maple cut 1:
http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=11746096
Tractor powered log cutter, i have shown this one before.

Maple cuttings:
http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=11746094
They take the 2" cuttings and burn Markham fair(MF) and the year on
them and sell them for a buck.

Dave,
Have you considered making a book of these shots?
You've done all the selection work.
It might make a different, more permanent display than a computer screen.

Nice to see!

I'm oddly most fond of this one... just screams at me to walk into the

a little less postcardy - this is just such a perfect one!

Love "misty morning " and the eagle with the "you talking to me?"

really grabbed me the most.

Excellent pics. I enjoyed them all. Lots of favorites, but I love all

could crop out or clone out that dark bit of a building intruding to

Markham fair photo contest

2009-10-01 Thread David J Brooks
Hi gang

I was very pleased at the photo contest results. Two 1st place, one
2nd, two 4ths and two 5ths, in the print classes. They were still
putting the digital results together when we were there. Back on
Saturday to watch the horse show and get Liz a coffee whilst she
announces for the horse show.

I'll see how i did in the digital then.

I entered 10 in digital and 18 in prints(6 B&W and 12 colour). I';ll
post a small Geso when i know whats what.

Warning for the squeamish, some shots are with the Nikon cameras.

Thanks Christine. These guys do this every year, the keeper of the

I have notice on these rolls and scans, the shots with less sky, and
more people/things in them. look better.

Wonder if its my exposures on those, or developing or...

Maybe another roll of E6 to see.
