That's a stunning image, Paul! I like the crispness of the front part of the image, and I do not notice any "practical" noise there. But what nudged me to respond here is some thoughts about the background. The noise on the green in the background distracts a bit. I was wondering if some sort of mask (on the background, maybe chosen with the magic wand in PS) +smoothing/denoising, or what I would call "soaping it" (to have less detail), or even "defocusing" it would produce a better background. I've had some photos where I was considering and trying some similar treatment of the background, - with a different level of success. Great image. The noise is so minimal it would need a real nit picker to comment. Actually less noise than the K7 at ISO 800! His head appears very soft to me. Appears to be a heavy crop or high ISO by the look of the background. Not that this would matter if the head was sharp.
