It's also fast for a variable aperture zoom (f2.8-3.5) and image stabilized. Regardless of whether it's based on any similar lenses, Leica branded lens designs for Panasonic manufactured cameras have all been very high quality performers, without exception. The L1 is certainly an attractive camera with excellent ergonomics and layout. BTW, the new Panasonic FZ50 also looks to be a pretty sweet deal for an ultrazoom, image stabilized, fixed-lens camera.
