Re: OT - Apple 'abandons' QuickTime on Windows

2016-04-19 Thread Igor PDML-StR

Godfrey,

My sincere apology for the erroneous reference.
I mixed it up with our brief discussion of another Apple software
available on Windows, - iTunes (in the discussion that included Audacity).
At about the same time I was looking (again) into issues in LR related to
videos (and QT libraries). My brain accidentally combined the two.

So, please excuse me for dragging your name into this thread.

Igor

Well, that article mentions the plugin but only briefly.

One of the problems that I foresee is that (IIRC) LR is relying with its
video codecs (possibly other librarires) being present, -- the codecs that
come from Quick Time.
After trying v. 5.*, I've started having problems that LR was unable to
"import" videos in its DB, complaining about codecs. Even having
reinstalled Quick Time at some point, I was unable to restore the full
functionality.

Cheers,

Igor

AFAIK it's only the Quicktime browser plugin that's discontinued, since
any decent browser will handle video natively now.

(I apologise if that's mentioned in the article, I haven't read it.)
