Thanks Cotty, it is an interesting article.  A giant iron meteorite
capable of peppering a state (or wider) with shot is amazing.  It
would have been one hell of a fireworks show... And left a lot of dead
animals.

Thanks for that. It will be interesting to see if they can find a  
corresponding layer of meteoric dust in the sedimentary rock. I  
imagine that's like looking for a needle in a haystack. But it's  
obvious that some calamitous event or events led to the extinction of  
various beasties.
