PAW: Trinidad Beach
This was taken walking along the beach just below the Trinidad lighthouse. There is a seal in the lower right hand corner, for those who care. I have played around with crops and haven't found any that improve the image for me. I like seals. I think its ok left in the shot,Bruce. Helps add something to the water. Is that mist behind the rocks or just very hazy. Nice shot BTW Dave > This was taken walking along the beach just below the Trinidad > lighthouse. There is a seal in the lower right hand corner, for those > who care. Very nice. You caught the birds in really interesting poses. Bruce Dayton wrote: This was taken walking along the beach just below the Trinidad lighthouse. On my monitor the seals head looks like a rock, What makes the photo for me is the bird with it's wings out spread on top of the rock. RE: PAW: Trinidad Beach
Hi, Bruce, Nice photo. I take it this is full frame? Well, I like it as is. I don't see any cropping improving it, either. I like the big rock off centre. I like the little rock in the foreground, giving the feeling of depth. And, of course, there's that seal! The only thing I'm not sure about is that I find the background very hazy. I know there's nothing you could do about it, but still, it's there. It's really just a small thing, and detracts little (if at all) from a beautiful photo. cheers, frank "The optimist thinks this is the best of all possible worlds. Re: PAW: Trinidad Beach
Thanks for the comments Frank. It is full frame - I played around with cropping and just didn't get any good feeling from it. As to the background, this is northern California coast - fog is the name of the game. It burns off as the sun shines, but earlier in the day, it does look kind of like this. I wonder if it was clearer if that would take away from the birds - they might blend in too much. Anyway, thanks for the comments. -- Best regards, Bruce Wednesday, May 19, 2004, 6:57:12 PM, you wrote: ft> Hi, Bruce, ft> Nice photo. I take it this is full frame? Well, I like it as is. Re: PAW: Trinidad Beach
Hi Bruce ... I fiddled with the pic in PS, cloned out the rock in front, and y'know what? It loses something. The photo becomes too bare. Something was needed in the foreground. Re: PAW: Trinidad Beach
Perhaps it would never be a great photo - just a nice one of the area there. If the rock is in, it detracts and if you take it out, something is missing. Thanks for taking a shot at it. Re: PAW: Trinidad Beach
My suggested cropping: http://www.dariobonazza.com/paw/imgp6809_std.jpg I believe this adds some sense of mystery, due to the less identifiable background (also highlighting the main subject), while keeping the depth (thanks to the rock in the foreground). Then, the "widescreen" format makes it more dynamic. Or, at least, I feel that. Re: PAW: Trinidad Beach
Hi! Sorry I am late to join this talk here. I do like original version better. To me the little space above the birds just hurts. The birds need lots of space, me thinks ... I think that it is just good as it is. Nothing I think needs to be done on it. Unlike Frank, I do appreciate the blurred background. It adds a little sense of space and also makes an excellent backdrop for contours of birds and rocks. Just my (late) pixels.
