Thanks for your kind words. The pic was literally taken while on the
move, hence there is some motion blur. There was one other frame but the
figure in the distance had changed completely and so the moment was gone.

If out walking with a very light, single lens combo, if it's a bright
day then I only take the Voigtlander 15mm f/4.5. On Micro Four Thirds
this gives a similar angle of view to a 30mm lens on 'full frame'.

I'll set the focus based on aperture, in this case f8, and then
generally leave it, snapping away at will. If the weather is poorer or I
feel a need for something wider then I'll take the Samyang 15mm f/2 but
this is much heavier.

The Voigtlander can be a nice sharp lens at f/8, but as with any camera,
care must be taken with shutter speed. I just looked and this shot was
1/60th at ISO 200. I keep ISO values on 4 custom settings on the main
top dial, so C1 is ISO 200, C2 is 400, C3 is 800 and C4 is 3200. I
should really have had it set to 4 or even 800 in the trees, I must have
forgotten to change it after moving from open fields to shadow.

I put the camera up to my eye and fired as soon as the shot was framed,
slowing my stride slightly. In the event, I didn't mind the motion blur
as my eye was drawn to the figure anyway and the shapes of the trees and
branches gave it a slightly dreamy feel, almost nightmarish.

>To show you how messed up I am, I'd have cloned out the white patch on

Nor sure if I follow you here, do you mean the space immediately above
the figure's head? Or higher up in the branches of the tree?

Re: PESO, woodland

2007-04-27 Thread Mark Cassino
First impression - I like it!

At web size the blue flowers merge together into something of a blue
haze. If at a larger resolution the flowers hold up, then you have a
real winner. It's hard to tell if the flowers are merging together
because they are unsharp, or if they are mering because it is a small photo.

The leaves and the sparse foreground contribute to the composition - a
consistent field of flowers from foreground on would not lead the eye
into the frame as effectively as this. And besides - you can only shoot
what's there!

Well done -

I like the original better - it has a certain 'wholeness' to it, a
completeness, and the dead leaves (not bare spots at all) add a significant
contrast to and interest in the bluebells, and to the trees surrounding the
clearing.

The cropped image is just that - cropped, and not very interesting for me.
It seems incomplete.

I sort of like the original. The crop isn't bad, but... You know, if it was
me, I'd probably cheat and clone some flowers and grass into the leafy

My, last response seemed a bit harsh. What I meant is you have so much
to apologize for, but never for your photography.

Quite nice in general. Nice color, lines, composition, etc.

I think the foreground's sparse coverage could have been better and,
