Jack,

It was not cropped at all.
It was shot with 17-70/4, at 70mm. This lens tends to be soft at the 
longer end (beyond ~50mm).
Since it was a catch of the moment, - I did not have time to change
the lens to the 50-135/2.8 that would've done a better job.

By "it", do you mean the light house or the bridge? In either case, I do
not see how that would help.

I was thinking about it, but something stops me... Probably the fact
that the bridge than will be cut off.. But may be you are right and some
cropping would help.

Not realistic unless you have a helicopter. It was shot from a boat.

I think I might see why you chose not to crop. The slight appearance of
