Well, laces used to be relatively rotting prone cotton. These days, they're likely made of NASA brand, high tech, indestructible "space" fibers..or.(?) None the less, even if thrown up there by the owner, the term "mischief" might still apply due to inconveniencing whatever city utility eventually winds up cutting them down. ;) If it works the way it does around here they won't get cut down. I think the fact the heel is missing on the shoe on the left, and a chunk of rubber is missing from the toe on the one on the right might trump the slight wear seen. I've seen this quite a lot. Around here it's common at the end of particular sports seasons - when high school football ends and when basketball season is over. Maybe baseball shoes aren't really suitable for this. The other place I used to see it a lot was around Ft. Yes, I messed with the lighting attempting to see a bit of the shoe soles and remove some glare from the uppers. Had to back off to eliminate some haloing, but a small amount remains.
