Thanks, Bob!

Shame about the softness from noise. I'd try bumping up the contrast,
let the shadow tones darken up, and increase the Clarity some
(assuming Lr). Or use the high-pass filter Overlay layer trick to
 sharpen it up some.

Bruce, I took a close look at your rendering and honestly don't see an
appreciable difference between yours and mine. However, I wasn't able to pull
yours up for a closer look.
The version posted is a downsized jpeg from a crop which is less than 20% of
the original file.
Considering Ann's comments and those of mine above, I'm comfortable with what I
have.
I don't mind at all your downloading and doing some editing if you like and
appreciate your thoughts.

LOL!  I thought Jack's original post was better to my eye I can't
remember the buzz word for that little halo effect that happens when you
fiddle too much to get a sharper image... or fiddle with brightness and
contrast too much...

The original was terrif, I thought

That's a hell of a pose, Jack. Great capture!

Shame about the softness from noise. I'd try bumping up the contrast,
let the shadow tones darken up, and increase the Clarity some
(assuming Lr). Or use the high-pass filter Overlay layer trick to
 sharpen it up some.

The hawk was very dark due, I'm sure, to the spot metering having caught a
 bit of the bright sky.
Not displeased, however, at what the K-5's DR allowed me to bring out.
