re: Subject: PESO: Ring-Billed Gull
Thanks much, Don. I just try to pick up the bird in time to get in a position to focus and track it as it passes. In actuality, the background wasn't nearly that dark. In was a stand of Redwoods, as I recall, which were casting some fairly deep shadows, but allowing a few open lighter areas as well. I left it to luck and continuous focus and drive. It's a heavy crop of an est'd 15% of the frame. Re: PESO: Ring-Billed Gull
Weird thing... It's a great capture, but the bird's eyes look bored-and-cynical. Which is a ridiculous thing to say about a bird or a picture of a bird. -T On Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 10:04 AM, Jack Davis wrote: > Was at a local northern California lake with the intention of "practicing" my > photo panning. PESO: Ring-Billed Gull
Was at a local northern California lake with the intention of "practicing" my photo panning. Quite a few Sea Gulls frequent said lake, but only in the winter. Must be the storms at sea that encourages them to move inland. This lake is surrounded with french fry munching folks, who bring their drive-through lunches and check out the bird life. Happened to get this as it passed a darkened shadow area background. Was dark enough that it didn't take much shopping to produce the one you see. I included, perhaps, a little more black background than necessary, but I wanted to make it a more significant part of the scene for whatever impact it might have. Bumps the emotion a tad for me.
