Thanks, Joe and everyone else who commented!

I wish I had tried using a polarizer on this shot to bring out more of the
texture without the glare. Too soon old, too late smart, again!

It is very nice that people whose judgement I respect also see something in
this shot, though!

I love the texture of the old bricks and cobblestones vs the sheen and
smoothness of the access cover. The light is just right to bring that
out.

I like it Rick. Good contrast between the cap and stones.

Like it, Rick, but wonder what a softer light would do to that theme.

Yes, it's nice. This would be something, if it were mine, I'd try rendering
in B&W. Just a suggestion.

Marnie aka Doe If sticking to color, might lighten the cover a tad.

Re: PESO: St. Louis Water Division

2009-01-11 Thread Stan Halpin
I like this very much Rick. My one comment is that I would probably
shot it (or cropped it) with the manhole cover a bit more off center,
probably just slightly lower right. I don't know if it would look any
better that way, I just prefer slightly more asymmetry... Your other
shot posted recently, the couple under an archway of trees in the
St. Louis riverfront park, was a pleasant well composed well lighted
shot that wouldn't hold my attention for more than a few seconds.
This has much more character IMHO.
