Re: PESO: Zion Afternoon
Yes! I had a spring shot taken several years prior I was happy with. When we arrived at this location I hadn't much hope for a successful image due to the late hour, but made this effort 'in case.' We spend the next AM in the canyon and then moved on to Monument Valley. When I saw the results, not having any experience with PS at that time, I stuck the 3-image film strip away and forgot about it. Thanks for comments, Jostein! Re: PESO: Zion Afternoon
Jack, As presented, I think the tone scale looks too compressed. It has a look that verges on conspicuous HDR. Not overly conspicuous, but imo firmly in the realm of taste for tonemapping effects. The yellows pops very nicely, but the greens look very grayish and murky on my screen. It's a nice composition. Was your initial reason for rejection the tricky exposure? Re: PESO: Zion Afternoon
I find this quite interesting. Yes, the colours are a bit saturated, and the background a bit murky... but I think its weaknesses are also its strengths here. For me, it has a feeling of transitioning from an accentuated almost hyper-real foreground, into what could be an impressionistic painting in the background. But it's not exactly a juxtaposition either... the successive layers blend and enhance the feel. It holds my attention and draws me into the scene. Personally, I really like this one. It was one that had been rejected (by me) some years ago..pre PS. Sun angle flattens some of the darker distant elements, but by pumping the sun struck and adjacent areas brings it back a little, so am somewhat torn as to its worth. Your opinions sought. Thanks! Ran across a strip of 120 that had fallen back of a bureau in the bedroom. Glassed it on the lightbox and decided to have it scanned. It was one that had been rejected (by me) some years ago..pre PS.
