Deceptively simple photograph that is really much more than a "slice of life".

2008-04-12 Thread Rick Womer
Timber,

I like both the BW and color versions. I think both
would be improved by cropping off the top 10% or so
(the busiest part of the sky). I agree with those who
have said that the cross is either not sharp enough or
too sharp; you could use some Gaussian blur in PS or
PE to make it fuzzier.

Or, you could just go back and play with it some more!

the idea is good but basically, you've focused on the wrong thing. The
cross and the clouds should be in focus; the lamp could get away with
being out of focus. The main compositional weight is on the cross, but
the lamp is the only thing in focus. You should be using the lamp to
frame the cross, so you have to alter the composition a bit.

Re: PESO: Waiting for the light to come...

2008-04-10 Thread ann sanfedele
What you attempted is really interesting -- I think it failed because of
two things -
the cross and the hill it is on need to be as sharp as the forground, or
, perhaps, much less sharp
the clouds are too "busy" - normally that dramatic sky would be great.

Is this somewhre you can go back to and get that nice juxtaposed cross
and light in better light ?

For some reason it doesn't look like a photograph. I'm not sure how to
