I thought the shadow should be deeper to set the gear off more. But it's a nice shot. Marnie aka Doe :-) -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
RE: PESO:the gearwheel
Hi Stephen thanks a lot for your nice comment! Paul is well known for his car shots and Grace portraits among lots of others and famous for his steady handheld technique as far as I have seen here so I don't get the connection to my gearwheel photo :-) ? I even used a steady monopod for that photo! geetings Markus -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Stephen Moore Sent: Monday, February 05, 2007 10:43 PM To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List Subject: Re: PESO:the gearwheel Markus Maurer wrote: Part of an old water barrage for the river Limmat in Zurich are some nice looking gearwheels: http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=5540576size=lg (251kb) Markus, I do like this a lot: the interplay of light, shadow and color, as well as the fine detail (cobwebs, etc.). I even used a steady monopod for that photo! I'm not sure I can even say why, exactly. Maybe a combination of the lighting and composition, and possibly the subjective experience of opening one of Paul's shots on photo.net -- I got that same feel from yours. Or maybe I was just looking for an excuse to say Stenquistian ;-) Best, Stephen -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net

From the looks of pinkish red color, it looks like it may have had a crack check done to it. I can't recall the name of the material, but we used to spray it on metal surfaces to highlight cracks. Fluorescing paint seen under a black light, or a dye penetrant test? This just looks like ordinary paint to me.
