PESO - Boris Week 14

2007-04-04 Thread Boris Liberman
Hi!

People are starting to post flower pictures. I thought I might as well.
After all one may claim that Israel is a sun of eternal summer.

http://not.contaxg.com/document.php?id=17222&full=1

I was going to this kind of effect having used nearly wide f 2.8
aperture. I wonder if the background is not too busy.

As usual, brutal and honest is what I prefer.

Thanks.

Boris

The background is too busy for my eye. It's surprisingly jumbled in
appearance too, for the FA31, but that's typical of wides used at
large apertures close-up.

This one doesn't work for me. The background is busy and competes
with the subject too much. An interesting effect, but not one I care

2007-04-05 Thread Fernando Terrazzino
Hi Boris,

First time I saw your picture I had a mix reaction, for one, I thought
that the OOF was too cluttered, but on a second look my thoughts are
exactly Brendan's (looks like a paint) or a morphed mirrored image.

So is thumbs up for an original effect.

Take this coming from someone tired of seeing one too many photos of
flowers with smooth butterly boke (the very thought just sickens me
;o) )

2007-04-05 Thread Shel Belinkoff
Hi Fernando, Boris ...

I, too, am a little - make that very - bored with the more typical flower
shots, so much so that I generally don't even view them.

Boris, while I feel that your shot, as it appears on the web, is a bit of a
jumbled mess, I applaud you for trying something different. However, I
also know that viewing a larger image will smooth things out quite a bit.
It seems that this pic may be improved to some degree by making it larger,
but without having the fuzz-rez file to play with, it's hard to guess what
the result will be.

Keep experimenting,

Shel

I am on the fence on this one. I like the duplication of the pink flowers in
the background, but the blurred blue flowers are confusing to the eye. You
are not following flower shot conventions, Boris, get with the program.

Almost a painting feel to it.

The way the DOF works is nice. Nice colours to.

IMO, Boris, the background is better than the main subject. Beautiful
colors. The DOF is not separating the foreground flower enough from the
background resulting in an image that confuses the eye.

I thing it needs either less DOF to blur the background more, or more DOF so
the entire image is in focus.
