Believe me, the soles are worn! That's the main reason I rarely wear them
anymore. Just once in a while if I know I'm not going to be walking very
far.

They're like an old friend - I don't think I'll ever get rid of them!

Hi Jack,

I'm certainly not here to say that you're wrong, you're only saying
what feels right for you, and that's always valid.

However, I have to say, the two things that you commented on are
exactly the details that I like about the photo! ;-)

I purposely focused on the white star, with the resultant sharpness
and detail in the laces. The more I looked at it the more I liked it.
The OOF toes and heels of the shoes seem to emphasize their age and
state of decay to my eyes.

And that lace going out of the frame on the right works for me, though
I can't say why. just gives a certain "flow" to the photo, I guess.

I certainly appreciate your comments, and this post is not a
"counter-critique", rather an explanation as to why I like the photo
despite those characteristics that (with some validity) bothered you a
bit.

Thanks!

cheers,
frank

Nice shot. It oozes comfort!
I pronate excessively, so I can't continue to wear sneakers or running shoes
after the soles have worn substantially. Jealous of those!

just a quick snap made moments before my post, just to underscore a
point I was trying to make. However, the more I look at it, the more
I like it as a photograph.

These are my old Converse One Star (kelly green), and they're nearing
the end of their lifespan. They're still comfortable as hell, but
there's not much sole left (although there is much "soul" left...).

Obviously, I can't enjoy the shot in the same way you do. It's you personal
nostalgia at play. ;)
As a photo, the DoF is a little shallow and I'd liked to have seen the complete
length of the lace in the shoe on "my" right.
