I like it very much, and don't find the clouds a distraction. To my eye, the foreground rocks might stand just a hair more contrast or a little more luminance to delineate the detail better. It's a tough call as the tonalities are subtle. On first glance, I felt it was too dark, then I viewed it full-screen with a black surround and it seemed better balanced, so with a white surround I'd want to see just this area brought up a hair so that the eye doesn't have to work so hard to see it. I like the picture very much, probably because it is the kind of composition I often try when shooting landscapes ;-) By only framing the distant mountains and sky would result in a typical postcard, while I find this "deep view" far more interesting. Thanks very much Jan. I actually used a photoshop action to blend the two images. It's an action I downloaded and it works really well. It certainly simplifies the process but finetuning is still required in terms of levels and curves. Thanks mate. I hadn't noticed the clouds before, they do detract, but they were there, so my inclination is to leave them. This was shot at the Booroomba Rocks in Namadgi National Park. The start of the walking track is only a 20 minute drive from home. It's a beautiful spot, but a hell of a steep walk up there. I'm planning on taking the K10D and 67 up there this summer...that'll be hard work! Great shot James - colours and composition are spot on. Just not sure about the clouds. Perhaps you could try cloning them out to see if it improves things. But it's a minor quibble.
