Re: PESO - Elegance (daylight!)
Bob, Thanks for your compliments! "Level" is a relative term. The upper windows of that building aren't on the same level. The change in paint color and the edges of the center lower window are at 90 degrees to each other, so I took those as "level" and "perpendicular". The slope of the street would show more if the camera axis had been perpendicular to the wall, but it wasn't quite. I played with this for a long time in Lightroom; what I posted seemed the best compromise. Re: PESO - Elegance (daylight!)
I took it from your post that your final criticism was the fact that "the girls are walking up hill."(?) Looks to me as though they are naturally leaning into the hill as they walk. A truer hill rise would reinforce that appearance. Then again, I may not get your point, Bob. :) Jack --- On Thu, 12/16/10, Bob Sullivan wrote: > From: Bob Sullivan > Subject: Re: PESO - Elegance (daylight!) > To: "Pentax-Discuss Mail List" > Date: Thursday, December 16, 2010, 8:38 AM > Jack, > No laser truing, but more level would make the girl's > uphill walk more > natural looking. > Regards, Bob S. > > On Thu, Dec 16, 2010 at 10:20 AM, Jack Davis > wrote: > > Looks like the tilt in this is a pretty good > compromise. Re: PESO - Elegance (daylight!)
Jack, No laser truing, but more level would make the girl's uphill walk more natural looking. Regards, Bob S. Re: PESO - Elegance (daylight!)
Looks like the tilt in this is a pretty good compromise. The girls are walking up hill because they're truly on a hill. If the tops of the windows were level the base of those above would be off even more. If you measure the distance between the bottom of the display windows and the sidewalk, it's obvious the building is on a slope. I suspect it didn't enjoy the benefit of laser truing. ;) Jack --- On Thu, 12/16/10, Bob Sullivan wrote: > From: Bob Sullivan > Subject: Re: PESO - Elegance (daylight!) > To: "Pentax-Discuss Mail List" > Date: Thursday, December 16, 2010, 7:59 AM > Rick, > You've got lots of milage out of that trip to Paris! > There are so many things to look at in this picture, I > don't know > where to start. > I felt the building was a bit off level, the top of the > windows should > be the reference. > Then the girls with the umbrellas are walking up hill. > Regards, Bob S. > > On Wed, Dec 15, 2010 at 7:56 PM, Rick Womer > wrote: > > I looked out the window of the Paris cafe where we > were having lunch, and noticed the scruffy building and the > elegant clothes in the windows. Re: PESO - Elegance (daylight!)
Rick, You've got lots of milage out of that trip to Paris! There are so many things to look at in this picture, I don't know where to start. I felt the building was a bit off level, the top of the windows should be the reference. Then the girls with the umbrellas are walking up hill. Regards, Bob S. I also like how the formality of the "dummies" contrasts with the decline shown in the rest of the pictures. Rick, the contrast of the stiff, formal display with the rundown wall and littered street, and the interest being shown by the pedestrians makes this very nice to me. Thanks for sharing with us.
