Yeah, that's Mildred. She was very tame. I suspect Hugh Morton was
somehow able to lead her up there & and get her to stay while he took
the photograph.

The aerial view in Google Maps doesn't really show it, but I think the
slope on the far side is less steep.

Mildred went to bear heaven in 1993. I think that one is actually named
Smokey and may be one of Mildred's descendants.

Grandfather Mountain has a nice bear habitat, considered to be the best
in the world, with more of it located off stage than what you see
looking down over the fence.

I've seen pics of a bear on top of that big rock formation that's in
there.  Its hard to see from the fence how they could possibly get up
there.  There must be an alternate climb from the other side that is
not as impossible looking.
