This is number 11 in the series "Print-a-Day for 30 Days."

<http://georges.posterous.com/into-the-light-print-a-day-11>

I was in the process of taking this photo, without the woman, as an
example of leading lines. The woman just happened to be walking
through the park (and through my photo.) Even though it wasn't
planned, I prefer this version.

I picked this photo for the printing project specifically because of
the difference between the highlights and shadows. There is detail in
both extremes.

Mark - both of those are good ideas. When I get back from class I'm
going to try using Lightroom's adjustment brush to change the white
balance in the two areas. I'll also see what a B&W looks like.

Fascinating composition. Thecolor balance difference between the shade
and sunlit areas makes it look odd and there's no way to correct one
without messing up the other (I speak from experience).

Why not try a B&W rendering? Could be interesting.

Re: PESO - PAD - Into the Light - Print-a-Day-11

2012-06-08 Thread George Sinos
Thanks guys. Both of those replies are interesting. I've gone back
and looked at this photo on an iPad, in Lightroom, and on a couple of
different monitors. It looks different on all of them.

The shadow under the bridge could be opened up a bit. On my monitor
you can see the edge of the sidewalk and barely see the surface of the
sidewalk.

The comment on the orange bench surprised me. In Lightroom it's down
in the shadows and didn't even catch my eye. On the iPad it's a lot
more distinct.

At least in a print everyone is looking at the same thing. Of course,
it would take a while to mail it around to everyone. :-)

Nicely done. Like the composition and careful framing of the edges.
The orange thing in the upper right hand corner I find a little
distracting. At first view, instead of following the path all with
way to the end at the top of the frame, my eyes stopped at the orange
pants, bench, sign The wide dynamic range, shadow gradient,
little motion blur on the foot, reflections, lighting, all good stuff.
There's a lot to look at in this picture.

2012-06-08 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
I like the top part of the image and the bottom part very much.

On my screen, at least, the right portion of the center of the image
(just above the woman's head) is very dark, and I find it quite
distracting. Also, I can't tell whether the two pathways connect or
not, and if they do, how.

That may just be the limitations of my display at work and my
imagination. I'll check it on my Mac tonight, and see if I like it
better.
